Students are expected to have language, literacy and numeracy skills required to perform the duties of the specific field in which they are seeking employment. An understanding of English is required to undertake the course, this level, defined by VETAB and the Security Licensing Enforcement Directorate is ASLPR-3. (Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating Level -3) Students of non-English speaking background having difficulty with the English language will be referred to the nearest TAFE for a language assessment. Security Officers are required to complete logs and incident reports on a daily basis, therefore, the ability to write in English is also a requirement.

VAST has established a database for its students. This database is used to provide information to prospective employers. All students have the option of being included on this database. VAST will actively assist its graduates to find employment in the field of their choosing.

Students will be assessed by qualified trainers and assessors against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria described in each unit of the course. Students, in consultation with the trainer, may be permitted to resubmit work after revision, or may be assessed in other ways. All students’ assessments will be filed as part of their academic documentation.

Recognition of prior learning will be available to all students who believe they are already competent in relation to the learning outcomes. Recognition of prior learning will be determined on an individual basis and will involve judging the competencies attained by the student through training, work experience or life experience. VAST will provide RPL through its existing policy guidelines.

The Security Licensing Enforcement Directorate has imposed conditions on NSW Approved RTO's which does not allow for the option of RPL's for Certificate II or III in Security Operations leading to a Class 1 Security Licence.         For further information please contact the office.
